Blessing Ourselves

I have to admit that I was a little nervous about giving this prayer shawl. I have known Marcia for several years. But, since I am not one of her close friends, I was concerned about how comfortable she would feel about getting a prayer shawl. But Marcia's name had been on my heart, too, when I started it, so I felt that God was directing me to comfort her.

On April 6, 2008, Laura went with me. Laura and Marcia have known each other for a long time, so there was plenty to share and to catch up on.

Marcia has breast cancer. She has a long road ahead of her with the mastectomy and the reconstruction. I had no idea that there were so many phases to it. As yet, she doesn't know if she will need chemo and/or radiation.

When we presented the shawl to her, Marcia immediately wrapped it around her. Marcia said that she was grateful that it wasn't pink. She is suffering from "breast cancer logo overload" right now. Laura led a beautiful prayer--saying so many comforting things. I felt so blessed to have been there. I pray that as Marcia feels helpless, sad, or confused as she goes through her surgeries and treatments that she will be able to wrap her shawl around her and remember that sunny spring Sunday afternoon when we prayed with her and shared our love with her.

The 2nd Blessing

The 2nd shawl was presented on Good Friday, March 21, 2008. This was my personal knitting and the girls were not able to go along for the blessing.

When I first began thinking about the prayer shawl ministry, I had met through business a Realtor by the name of Barbara. During the process of our working together she was diagnosed with stage 2 ovarian cancer and had to have her broker take over her real estate transactions. The Lord kept bringing her name to mind and I felt led to do my first knitting for Barbara.

Barbara began her treatments and I checked on her progress occasionally through her broker and via email. I told her I would like to bring by something I had knitted her. She instantly said, "You've knitted me something for my bald head!" I said, "No, I don't know how to knit beenies yet!" When presented with the shawl she said, "What are you, an angel or something?" We had a very nice visit and hopefully she will continue to make wonderful progress!

Thank you so much for my blessed shawl. If I had a dollar for every time I've used it, I'd be rich! I just love it. It stays on the couch. So nice to meet you finally. See you soon!

Pharr Shawl Blessing

Pharr Prayer Shawl Blessing

March 9, 2008 several of us were able to go by Mrs. Pharr's house so Lunette could give her the beautiful shawl she'd been working on. Mrs. Pharr is a dear dear Christian lady and has been her husband's care giver for many years. Mr. Pharr suffers with Alzheimers and Mrs. Pharr continues to faithfully minister to him daily. Lunette so graciously explained to Mrs. Pharr the meaning behind the shawl and how we had been praying for her during its knitting. Mrs. Pharr just cried and went on and on about how sweet and beautiful it was. We all hugged her and thanked her for being such a good example to us and how much of a witness she is for Christ by her selfless service.

The “Knitwits” was founded by a group of long time friends and “sisters” in Christ in December of 2007, with a common desire to minister to the needs of others around them. From the onset of this “knitted” group their heart’s desire is that God will work his wonders through their hands. We pray that through this small gift of comfort, God will provide for every need. To God be the glory, honor and praise and may many come to know Jesus as their Savior and Lord..
